The Ad hoc Committee of the World Breeding Federation for the FEI World Championships for Young Horses held a meeting in Amsterdam, mainly to discuss the status of the preparations for the Championships, which are well advanced. The number of entries received is also very encouraging, including nominations from as far as Australia, USA and Canada. The Ad hoc Committee insisted that National Federations may only nominate riders from their home country. However, NFs should be encouraged to also nominate horses other than their homebred horses, which means that in the future national selection trials should be open to all horses. An increasing amount of countries has already selected riders with horses of different breeds. For countries with selection trials restricted to horses from their home country, a wild card system is used to make the entries for the World Championships more open. For instance, Holland and Germany have been allocated further wild cards, subject to their nomination of national riders with non-homebred horses, as outlined in the schedule.
