Kelly
Corrigan and Wenzel Lad, Happy Leaders' Duo
The
first class of Saturday September 28, 2002, was won by Kelly Corrigan
and Wenzel Lad. Riding in class 2 A, which was Fourth Level test 2,
Corrigan presented the elegant and elastic Wenzel Lad with much suppleness
and scored a high 68.625%. Her chestnut gelding mastered his fourth
level exercises well and seems ready for the St. Georges, but the contact
with the bit, and especially the curb bit could have been softer. In
the award ceremony, Wenzel Lad seemed much more at peace with the snaffle
in his mouth than being ridden with the double bridle.
In second
place were Jennifer Huber and Al Pacino, a combination, which has been
extremely successful over the weekend. Huber, who trains with Su Jaccoma,
and her dark bay Hanoverian by Achenbach continue to grow in the show
and her scores are rising in each class. In Class 2A, the duo got 66.375%.
Another
interesting combination that entered the ring were Bent Jensen and his
massive Columbo. The 7-year old Holsteiner stallion by Capaccio out
of Fabelhaft showed strong extensions and nice traversal movements but
not all upper level exercises were that confirmed. Still, the combination
had a nice ride and received 64.250%.
