2003 Dressage at Devon

A Whole Lot of Love at Far-a-Field Acres

Ladies ManWinning Tuesday's Dressage Horse Suitability class for 4-year olds was the Holsteiner gelding Ladies' Man. Ridden by Hokan Thorn, this dark bay horse excelled in his suppleness and quality movements and bested a field of nine horses. Ladies' Man is by Love Affair out of Delphine (by Merano) and is bred by Lieselott Wiendick of Far-A-Field Acres. He is a full brother to the the 6-year old mare My Love, who finished second in the 6-year old Mares Under Saddle class, as well as third in the Four-year old and Older Maiden Mares class and third in the 6-year old Dressage Horse Suitability Class.

Needless to say Far-A-Field Acres had a terrific week at the 2003 Dressage at Devon Breed Show. "It was the first time that he [Ladies' Man] has gone of the farm," Marlene Eagleberger proudly said. Eagleberger, co-owner of Far-A-Field acres praised Ladies' Man for his general appearance, his very good gaits and his easy going character.

Far-A-Field Acres is located in Quinque, Virginia, and carries an exceptional foundation history. Lieselott Wiendieck is a legendary breeder of foundation Holsteiner mares and stallions in Germany (Rhea, Rivalin, Merlin, Venezia). Wiendick moved to the United States 20 years ago and located in Virginia 14-years ago. Lieselott obtained her "Green Card" from the U.S. Government in a category strictly reserved for "extraordinary ability." This tiny category has very strict rules and requires enormous documentation, but the U.S. Government recognized her expertise, talent and reputation and offered her permanent residence. "Lieselott moved to Virginia one month before I did and it just clicked between us." Marlene Eagleberger became the co-owner of Wiendick's breeding barn and expanded it into a full scale training, breeding and sales facility.

My LoveFar-A-Field Acres has 75 horses of which 20 are in training with rider-of-the-house, Hokan Thorn. "We are like a little U.N.," Eagleberger said. "Our stud man is Irish, Hokan is Swedish, our students are British and Australian and it's in fact quite wonderful. It works out great. We have been so fortunate, no one ever wants to leave our barn." Marlene's husband, Thomas Eagleberger, was the secretary of state under Bush Sr. "My husband enjoys horses from afar. He thinks they are "beautiful"," Eagleberger joked.

Far-A-Field Acres is standing two stallions at stud: Love Affair and Merano. "Love Affair is the most laid back stallion you can imagine and we get so much love from him," Eagleberger said. Lieselott is very strict in keeping to the Holsteiner lines. She always goes back to the old lines, as it is very important for them to survive, and she enhances them with fresh Holsteiner blood.

Far-A-Field Acres was represented at the 2003 Devon Breed Show with Ladies' Man, My Love, Ocala, Ophelia and Ocita.
