2004 Dressage at Devon - Performance Division Tom Dvorak and Beaumarchais Confirm Shape in the Intermediaire I October 3, 2004
Aboard Sue Platz' Hanoverian Beaumarchais (by Warkant), Dvorak rode a correct and expressive test in which the trot half passes were the eye catcher. In the traversal movements, Beaumarchais crosses his legs with much reach while maintaining rhythm and bounce. "I'd like to take credit for it, but it's really him," Dvorak said, "He's a powerhouse. He's such a strong mover." Dvorak confessed he didn't really "expect" to win, but said "you go in and do the best you can. I had a really good year with that horse." Tom competed Beaumarchais at Devon last year at fourth level and in the Prix St Georges, but the horse has really matured now. "He's more confirmed, last year he was still green. He's a hot horse, but I got a better handle on his temperament and can control it."
Next year Tom hopes to start both Beaumarchais and West Side Lady at Grand Prix level. Unlike most top Canadian dressage riders, Dvorak will not be going to Florida for the winter show season. "Every four or five years I get the bug to go, but next season I stay in Canada. I will show the horses at some national shows at home and be here [in Devon] in the fall."
