2004 Dressage at Devon

Local Businesses Stand Behind 30th Annual Dressage at Devon Horse Show

The Haverford Trust Company continues to lead sponsors, while support from local companies grows strong for upcoming event September 28th through October 3rd

Devon, PA – (September 12, 2004)—As the ancient equestrian sport of dressage grows becomes increasingly popular throughout the country, local business see the benefits of standing behind Dressage at Devon, one of the oldest, largest and most prestigious dressage shows in North America. Dressage at Devon, says six-time Olympian Robert Dover, is the standard by which all horse shows should be judged. The 30th Annual Dressage at Devon Horse Show takes place September 28th through October 3rd at the historic Devon Horse Show Grounds.

At the Platinum level, The Haverford Trust Company continues to be the top sponsor of the show. According to Vice President and Director of Corporate Giving Susan S. Werner, The Haverford Trust Company is proud to be involved with Dressage at Devon. “This is a dynamic event,” she says, “made possible by the extraordinary efforts of so many volunteers. The show’s beneficiary, Thorncroft, has set new levels of excellence for therapeutic riding. Saunders and Sallie Dixon have inspired many volunteers to join their efforts in making a significant difference for many individuals." Haverford Trust continues to place a great emphasis on supporting our area non-profit organizations. Mrs. Werner says, “In this economic environment, it is even more important for corporations to do what they can for their communities. At Haverford Trust, this commitment remains one of our main priorities.” The Haverford Trust Company is an investment management firm and state-chartered trust company managing more than $5 billion in assets.

New to the list of local sponsors this year is Brushwood Stable. The Malvern facility has become the Presenting Sponsor for the new Born in the USA Breeders Awards for US-bred horses. They are also a supporting sponsor for Putting it All Together, a seminar for breeders and buyers.

Also new to the roster of Dressage at Devon sponsors this year is Vespa Philadelphia. “We are delighted to be participating in such a prestigious event”, said Vespa Philadelphia owner Vincenzo Mercuri. At the show, chances will be sold to win a fabulous new Vespa motor scooter. “Donating one of our motor scooters to benefit such a worthy program is very much in keeping with our commitment to support not-for-profit community organizations”. Vespa Philadelphia operates two area stores – one in Manayunk and one on South Street in Philadelphia which just opened in September.

Joining Vespa and Brushwood Stable as new sponsors of Dressage at Devon are Hill Cadillac in Newtown Square. Kevin Pound, of Hill Cadillac, says that his company became sponsors of the show because it’s such a great cause. “We firmly believe that we should support local events and local charities. Dressage at Devon supports Thorncroft, and the event takes place right in our backyard.” Cortie Wetherill’s Family of Dealerships which includes Devon Hill BMW and

Devon Hill Volkswagen, has also joined the sponsors this year. Wetherill says, “I am thrilled to be a sponsor of the Dressage at Devon and help support Thorncroft Therapeutic Horseback Riding. I feel very fortunate to be able to combine my admiration for horses and my passion for automobiles in a way that benefits such a worthwhile cause.”

Other local businesses that continue to stand behind Dressage at Devon include Dansko in West Grove, Iron Spring Farm in Coatesville, and Rick’s Heritage Saddlery in West Chester.
