Friday, September 22, 2006 - to the Airport

I slept until nearly seven. I got up slowly; there was no agenda for the morning aside from the organizational stuff that I had to accomplish before I set off on my big trip this afternoon. I emailed Janna, who had told me that she was going to Uzbekistan to look at horses. I tried desperately to finish getting my grant application in order, but Lauren’s printer was configured in an obscure way, and I could not get it to print. It was very frustrating. I knew that Lauren hated people giving her homework, and now I gave her homework. She could put the grant application together, once Andy came home and got the printer to cooperate, and once Anne’s letter of recommendation arrived, probably in today’s mail. I was as ready as I was going to get.

Lauren took me over to Missy’s. James was to be our chauffeur today. He told me that we were going to use the black truck that was hooked to a trailer down below, and he gave me the keys to move the trailer to a more level spot and unhook it. This was a more complicated task than it seemed. The jack on the trailer had rusted out, and I had to find and use the truck jack to get the trailer off.

I brought the truck up to the barn, and Becca and I got our stuff loaded into it. James drove us to the airport, using back roads that I did not know. We got checked in, and settled in at our gate. to the hotel. We stopped at a small market on our way, and I got food for dinner. I got checked in. It was much nicer than I had expected, with a deep bathtub and a relatively spacious room. Soon I was snuggled down for the night.
