Sunday was the final day of competition at Dressage at Devon and there were a lot of familiar faces in the winner’s circle. Perhaps the most familiar of all was Courtney King who finished out the last day of competition by adding two more FEI wins to her collection. With Mythilus, she won the FEI Grand Prix Special with a score of 71.00 percent. Placing second was Elisabeth Austin and Olivier with a score of 63.68. King also won the Intermediaire I Freestyle with Rendevous 3 with a score of 71.20. Coming in second was Erin Brinkman and Bella Luna with a score of 68.05.

There wasn’t much new that King could say about her wins, other than that they were “a great way to end the day and to end the show.” Her winning freestyle with Rendevous, a 12-year-old Austrian mare owned by Francine Walker, was set to the music of My Fair Lady. “Today was the first run through ever of the freestyle,” King said. “I’m getting much more confident with freestyles.” Her freestyle was designed by Marlene Whitaker.

Of Mythilus, King said she couldn’t be more proud. “I’m on a high right now with how well all the horses have done, but especially Mythilus,” she said. King said he really stayed with during Sunday’s ride despite the difficulty of the Special.

And she feels that Mythilus, a 13-year-old Dutch gelding by Ferro, will only get better over time as he becomes more confirmed in the Grand Prix. King said one of the great things about Mythilus is that he loves to work. “He’s always thrilled to do the job.”
