Squads Named for 2003 Pan American Eventing Championship

Gladstone, NJ—October 2, 2003—The United States Equestrian Team (USET) has selected two squads for the 2003 Pan American Eventing Championship. The Championship will be held as part of the Fair Hill International CCI*** in Fair Hill, MD, October 23-26.

All riders on both squads are eligible to compete in the Pan American Eventing Championship due to the increased number of riders the U.S. is able to enter as the host country. The four entries that will compete as the team plus the first three individuals will come from the Squad “A” list.

Selected to compete are:

Squad “A” (In Alphabetical Order By Rider)

  • Stephen Bradley - Brandenburg’s Joshua
  • Darren Chiacchia - Windfall 2
  • Robert Costello - Dalliance
  • Will Faudree - Antigua
  • Holly Hepp - Lester Piggott
  • David O’Connor - Courting Danger
  • Karen O’Connor - Joker’s Wild

Squad “B” (In Alphabetical Order By Rider)

  • Nathalie Bouckaert - West Farthing
  • Ashley MacVaugh - All’s Fair
  • Leslie Leigh Smith - High Cotton
  • Lynn Symansky - No It Tissant
  • Jan Thompson - Shared Dreams
  • Linden Wiesman - Esker Riada

All riders on both squads will be expected to participate in a training session in Middleburg, VA, October 13-19. All horses will be evaluated by the Veterinary Panel on October 19 following a gallop that same day. Based on the input from the Veterinary Panel and the USET Chef d'Equipe, Capt. Mark Phillips, the USET selectors will make their recommendation regarding who will compete on the Team and who will compete as Individuals.

Riders selected to ride on the Team, plus the first three selected as Individuals, will have the right to wear the USET shield and USA colors during the Pan Am Championship and in all competitions thereafter. Any other U.S. riders that medal at the 2003 Pan American Eventing Championship will earn the right to wear the USET shield and USA colors thereafter.
