Over the Walls Horse Trials to Benefit Windrush Farm Therapeutic Equitation, Inc.

Hardwick, MA—July 21, 2003—All parking proceeds from the Over the Walls Horse Trials, which returns to picturesque Great Meadowbrook Farm in Hardwick, MA, August 1-3, will benefit Windrush Farm Therapeutic Equitation, Inc.

Founded in Boxford, MA, in 1964, Windrush Farm is a non-profit organization whose goal is to use horses to expand the personal, emotional, and physical boundaries of people of all ages with mental and physical disabilities. To do this, Windrush offers specialized classes that involve students grooming horses or working in one of the farm’s two barns, as well as riding and other equine-related activities.

Marjorie Kittredge, founder and President of Windrush Farm Therapeutic Equitation, Inc. is a certified instructor of riding for the handicapped, a Massachusetts licensed advanced riding instructor, and a USA Equestrian dressage, driving, and combined training judge. Kittredge was also a founding member and former President of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association. She has judged at the Dressage World Championships for Riders with Disabilities and has been involved with the International Paralympic Equestrian Committee for a number of years.

“Erik and I are very excited to have this opportunity to support Windrush Farm,” said Over The Walls co-founder Torrance Watkins, a two-time Olympic Medalist who competes internationally, trains eventing horses and riders, and designs cross-country courses including the one at Over the Walls. “Windrush has always meant something very special to me. We believe in what Windrush does and we are grateful for the chance to help.”

The Over the Walls Horse Trials, one of America’s premier eventing competitions, is comprised of three days of exciting equestrian action. More than 200 horses and riders from the U.S., Canada, Australia and other countries will be competing at the Advanced and Preliminary levels.

Over the Walls will once again be hosting the National Advanced Horse Trials Championship, for the prestigious Jack Le Goff Trophy. The trophy is awarded to the top U.S. horse and rider combination. There will be seven other Advanced and Preliminary divisions featuring world-class riders from all over the globe. Over the Walls is also the last selection trial for the Area I Young Riders before they head off to Bromont, Canada for the North American Young Riders’ Championships.

In addition to witnessing world-class horses and riders galloping over green fields overlooking the Central Massachusetts Town of Hardwick, spectators at the 2003 Over the Walls Horse Trials can enjoy shopping at the event’s trade fair. Vendors will be on hand, offering gifts for home, people, and pets, horse supplies, tack and equipment, and everything for the horse enthusiast.

The Over the Walls Horse Trials is open to the public with free admission and a parking charge of $5.00 per carload, which includes a program.
