Debi Crowley and Mighty Mite Persevere to Win the 2003 Radnor Hunt International Three Day Event

Mighty Mite's Humble Beginnings

The story of Mighty Mite, the appendix quarter horse she purchased from breeders Susan and Dan Goldman is a dispersal of their racing stable 5 years ago, has similarities to the legendary story of Seabiscuit. "To the best of my knowledge, he was never raced." explained Crowley. "Several people wondered why I bought him, but I saw something special in him, he was a good mover." explained Crowley, whose fondness for dressage gave her the edge throughout the entire weekend. Crowley credits the guidance of Jim Graham, Werner Geven, and dressage trainer Wolfgang Shertzer, for their contribution to her success.

Crowley, who is married to Kevin Crowley, "his thing is golf, but he's 100% supportive" has her own farm, with nine horses, and begins each day at 5 a.m., feeding and doing some minimal barn work, so she can get to her job at Camber Corporation. Her hours are from 6:30-3:30, giving her just enough daylight when she gets home to work and train her horses. A new lighted covered arena has added to her training time as well. "Weekends are really when I can catch up on my training, and I just hired an assistant who can help me with the young horses, such a luxury!" she laughed.
