The Ludwig's Corner Horse Show: A Gem for Sixty Years

Chester County, PA - May 29, 2003 - For 60 years, the Ludwig's Corner Horse Show has been a Chester County gem. The Horse Show and Country Fair, a Labor Day weekend tradition for generations of families, will celebrate its diamond anniversary Sunday, August 31 and Monday, September 1, 2003. Among its many attractions is a traditional country fair with rides, games, entertainment, food and shopping, designed to amuse each member of the family.

The event is deeply rooted in the northern Chester County community. The first show, held in 1943, was a community effort to unite lovers of horses and of the countryside to aid various community activities. The initial event drew 88 horses and benefited the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of Birchrunville.

Now, more than 400 horses compete in the show, held at the 33-acre Ludwig's Corner horse show grounds, located in the beautiful rolling Chester County countryside near Glenmoore, PA. The show runs non-stop from 8 am to 6 pm each day. In addition to exciting equestrian competition, hours of fun for all ages will be provided by the Country Fair, which will feature entertainment, rides for children, games, delicious food, and distinctive shopping at the "Shops at Ludwig's Corner." Among the event's sponsors are Wilke Lexus, Somerset Nursery, Sara Lee and Prudential Insurance.

The horse show features continuous action in three competition arenas, running simultaneously throughout the day. Hunters and jumpers, ranging from adult and child beginners to top regional competitors, will compete daily. The show's highlight, the $5,000 Ludwig's Corner Horse How Association Mini Prix, will begin about 1 pm Monday. Competition for driving horses and ponies in singles and multiples will be featured on Sunday. Along with dressage, cross country and cones competition, the highlight of the driving event will be the Gambler's Choice, which will take place from noon to about 3 pm.

The show raises funds to preserve open space in the surrounding community. The Ludwig's Corner Horse Show Association Foundation is devoted to keeping the 33-acre show grounds as open space, and to funding local organizations with similar open space missions.

The Ludwig's Corner Horse Show Association continues to renovate the grounds, creating a premier multipurpose facility suitable for horse shows, dog shows, sporting competitions, exhibitions and entertainment events. Past efforts have focused on maintaining and upgrading the rings. Future plans include a multi-purpose building, stable area, and new training ring.

Ludwig's Corner Horse Show is located just beyond the intersection of Rts. 100 and 401 in northern Chester County, PA. From PA Turnpike exit 23, take Rt. 100 north 4.3 miles to the showgrounds on the left. Admission is charged; parking is free.
