Karen O’Connor’s two Fours Star mounts, “the pony” Theodore O’Connor, and Upstage, passed the final vet inspection with flying colors on Sunday morning at the 2007 Rolex FEI Kentucky Three Day Event, so what did she need a veterinarian for, before stadium jumping?

“My dog Bourbon had seven puppies in our camper Thursday night,” Karen explained. “On Sunday morning they had their tails docked and dew claws removed.” As Karen prepared for the final day of what she has described the ‘time of her life’, the puppies rested comfortably oblivious to the history their owner was about to make.

Riding a pony for the first time in the only Four Star Eventing competition in the United States, Karen O’Connor and Theodore O’Connor had a smooth and submissive dressage test, flew around the huge Olympic level cross country course, and had one of only a few double clear stadium rounds finishing to a standing ovation, and third in an international field of thirty three horses. And cheering the team on was “Teddy’s” growing list of “owners” those who have bought into a syndicate created to help support his career.
