Paso Fino Summit to Host Auction

SPRINGFIELD, MA - May 25, 2001 - The Paso Fino Summit, New England’s first national level Paso Fino Horse Show, is proud to announce it will host an auction of 40 Paso Fino horses on Saturday, June 16 at 1:30 p.m. The auction will be held at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, MA and will be one of the signature events of the Paso Fino Summit, which is bringing a world-class Paso Fino horse show to New England when it debuts June 14-17.

"We are committed, both through the prize money offered at our competition and the development of the first class auction, to providing a sound financial basis for our breed. We have chosen Alan Parker, the PFHA Nationals auctioneer, to manage, host and run our auction," said Betty Goldman, co-organizer of the Paso Fino Summit and auction.

"The auction environment has been wildly successful in the Thoroughbred, Standardbred, Quarterhorse and Arabian breeds. Provided that people are properly educated in the value of buying at auction, the availability of good animals to purchase at fair market value and the presence of serious buyers, the Auction is a wonderful venue in which to buy and sell," continued Goldman.

The auction is open to the public. Horses of all ages will be offered for sale and in addition to Paso Finos, there will be Trocha and Trote y Galope breeds of horses. Prospective buyers, or sellers, can contact Alan Parker for more details at (813) 719-1445.

Paso Fino is a mixture of three Spanish breeds : the Andalusian, the Barb and the now extinct Jennet. The ancestors of today’s Paso Fino were transported to the New World on the second voyage of Christopher Columbus. Today the Paso Fino reflects its Spanish heritage through its proud carriage, elegance and natural four-beat gait. Gait is paramount for a Paso Fino. Paso Finos can walk, canter and gallop like other horses, but their preferred way of going is their own natural four-beat lateral gait. The breed got its name from what the horse was commonly called, "Los Caballos de Paso Fino," "the horse with the fine step."
