2004 Olympic Games - Eventing

A Tour of the Cross Country Course - page 3

23#21 & #22 is a bounce of logs jumping into the water and then a gallop through the water. #23 is a narrow tree trunk. #24 A-B-C you jump in over a log and then continue over a center narrow log and then over a log similar to A. #25 is a drop which when you approach looks like a log with flowers on it. #26 A-B-C is uphill over a log, downhill over a ditch at the bottom and then uphill again over another log before heading downhill again.

23#27 and #28 are two windmills set at the top of a hill and off a corner. #29 is a wide jump – like jumping a table – with water running in it. #30 has panels with the Olympic symbol of five rings and sits at the top of a hill. #31 is the pottery jump indicative of this area. Number 32 is a series of logs set in a double V formation. Only two more to go. Number 33 you jump a roof jump set at an angle to make the horses and riders think before heading off to the final panel jump #34.

And that’s it. Tomorrow I’ll see how our team of horses fares over these jumps and how our riders and U.S. team does. After the two days of dressage as a nation we are standing fourth in the Eventing behind Great Britain (1 st), France (2 nd) and Germany. Individually, U.S. rider Kimberly Severson on Winsome Adante is also in 4 th place behind Nicolas Touzaint (FRA/29.40), Philippa Funnell (GBR/31.40), Bettina Hoy (GER/32). Darren Chiacchia riding Windfall 2 is 15 th, John Williams aboard Carrick stands 23 rd, Firefighter Amy Tryon on Poggio II is 29 th in the order, and Julie Richards on Jacob Two Two is 58 th. Let’s hope things look up after cross country.
