American Quarter Horse Foundation Awards 50 New Scholarships

Amarillo, Texas - May 23, 2003 - The American Quarter Horse Foundation has awarded 50 new scholarships in 2003-2004 for a combined total of 178 AQHF scholarship recipients. More than $420,000 in scholarships will be awarded during the next school year.

Since 1976, the American Quarter Horse Foundation has provided scholarships to more than 700 members of the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Youth Association. Total scholarship awards, since 1976, have exceeded $4 million.

Scholarship recipients must excel academically along with contributing to the growth and improvement of AQHYA and AQHA. In 2002-2003, 128 young people were attending college on scholarships made possible by donations to AQHF.

Applicants for the Youth Scholarships may major in any field, but must have been an AQHYA member in good standing for at least three years.

The Foundation also administers two scholarship programs for members of the American Quarter Horse Youth Association and students pursuing education related to the American Quarter Horse racing industry.

Youth scholarships are $2,000 per year for four years. Scholarships require recipients to maintain a 2.5 or greater GPA (4.0 scale). The scholarship process begins by contacting AQHF at (806) 376-5181. Applications are due February 1.
