Camping at Western States Horse Expo
Sacramento, CA - April 20, 2004 - According to Bonnie Davis, owner of Two Horse Enterprises, free lance writer and avid trail rider, "Horse camping allows a horse owner the opportunity to ride those backcountry trails without the need for extra stock. Since most of us board our horses or keep a horse or two in the backyard, extra stock requirements for packing and all that extra equipment, bigger trailer and more tack is avoided by horse camping."
This will be the 6th year Davis has presented "Horsecamping -- where to go, what to take & how to get there" at the Western States Horse Expo which has grown to be the largest equine event in America. With over 60,000 people attending the 2003 HorsExpo, Davis will again present daily presentations in the Trail Symposium area.
"I always get excited when HorsExpo draws near 'cause it gives me an opportunity to talk about my two favorite horse activities -- trail riding and horse camping. There are a lot of folks out there who are thinking about camping, want to camp, are camping and just want to take that extra trip to someplace different but aren't sure where to find those sites. This gives me the chance to tell people about those other areas and what to take and what not to take as well," Davis stated.
"Horsecamping 2004" will include such topics as where to go, finding those campsites, how to get a horse ready to camp, avoiding camping horse stress, what to take, selecting camp spots, environmental concerns plus safety, feeding requirements, how to keep a horse happy in camp and other subjects. Working from her own 'camp site' complete with weed free feeds, fire pit, highlines and camp setup, Davis will demonstrate and talk about various techniques and aspects she uses when camping. And why her "if it can't be used two ways, I don't want to take it with me" philosophy has worked for her in 40 years of trail riding and horse camping.
The Western States Horse Expo is held at Cal Expo in Sacramento, California beginning June 11th - 13th with "Horsecamping" daily at 1 pm. Handouts are included in the free presentation and "if not all the questions get answered, folks can drop by Two Horse Enterprises vendor booth #11 inside the Mane Event and we can discuss it more" Davis concluded.
