Executive Board's Decision on The World Cup
The Executive Board of the FEI unanimously decided not to accept the Grand Slam concept within the World Cup for the 1998/99 season.

Originally the FEI agreed in principle to allow that seven World Cup events could be called "FEI World Cup with the Grand Slam" and that a bonus would be paid to a rider winning 3, 4 or 5 of such World Cup (Grand Slam) competitions in a row.

Since it became obvious that the Grand Slam idea was promoted as a different concept; in fact as an enlarged version overshadowing the World Cup, the Executive Board decided that such a Grand Slam would not be in the best interest of the established World Cup, now in its 21st year.

Huge Entries for the World Endurance Championships
41 nations with over 190 competitors have announced their participation to the World Endurance Championships to take place on 10 December 1998 in the United Arab Emirates.

Eldric's President Says Good Bye
Having been offered a new challenge in his professional career, Maurizio Stecco (ITA) resigned from his position of President of the Eldric association. Mr Eef Schreus (NED) has been appointed interim president.

Five Applications For 2001 European Jumping Championships
Already five applications have been received to host the 2001 European Jumping Championship: Linz (AUT), St-Gallen (SUI), Geesteren (NED), Donaueschingen (GER), Luxemburg (LUX). The Bureau will take a decision during its meeting to be held in conjunction with the FEI General Assembly in April 1999.

In Memoriam
Hermann Friedländer who, while serving in the US Army, was instrumental in helping the Hannoverian breed to survive after World War II, died last July 1998 at the age of 90. The German born Friedländer was a respected trainer and FEI judge.
