- The Samsung Nations Cup Series after 5 competitions THE SAMSUNG NATIONS CUP SERIES AFTER 5 COMPETITIONS 30 CSIOs are in the calendar of the 3rd season of the Samsung Nations Cup Series 1998/99, leading to the 3rd Final, scheduled for 26 September 1999 at a site to be decided shortly. 5 of the CSIOs have been held: Zagreb and Athens in Europe, and the 3 Nations Cups of the North American Fall circuit - Washington, New York and Toronto. Remaining this year is Mechelen in Belgium at its traditional date between Christmas and New Year. The USA, winner in Washington and New York, is in the lead with 14 points, ahead of the winner in Toronto, Canada, with 11 and the winner in Zagreb, Switzerland, with 10. France, who has competed already in 4 Nations Cups, is 4th with 8.5 ahead of Ireland, the winner in Athens. IN MEMORIAM Mr. Douglas Green (GBR), Honorary Vice President of the British Show Jumping Association passed away on 22 October 1998 following a long illness. He had been appointed FEI Steward General for Great Britain from 1995 to 1997. In all the years he was involved in the sport, he made a great contribution to the organization of the training of judges in Great Britain. Dr Franz Pranter (AUT), Official International Jumping Judge and FEI Bureau Member from 1990 to 1995, unexpectedly passed away on 17 November 1998. He was 59 years old. Franz Pranter represented the Austrian Equestrian Federation at numerous General Assemblies. In a difficult transition period in early 1989 he served as acting FEI Secretary General. For 6 years he was the FEI's Treasurer, and he officiated at dozens of international events as Foreign Judge, including Olympic Games, World and European Championships and World Cup Finals. Vicomte Hubert Jurien de la Gravière (FRA), Official International Judge for Jumping and Eventing, and FEI Bureau Member from 1972 to 1989, died 17 November 1998 after a prolonged illness. He was 75 years old. Hubert Jurien de la Gravière was elected to the Bureau of the FEI in 1972 as Chairman of the Three-Day Event Committee. He was, after Ernst A. Sarasin, only the second Chairman of the Three-Day Event Committee, which was created in 1965. He served on the Committee for 17 years. Upon his retirement in 1989 he was made Honorary Bureau Member. Hubert Jurien de la Gravière officiated at many international Jumping and Eventing competitions as Foreign Judge. Visit the official web site for the FEI |
