In Memoriam: Eric Wauters (BEL)
The FEI just learned of the untimely death of Eric Wauters (BEL), the well-known Belgian rider and show organiser, on 21 October 1999. He was 48 years old. Eric Wauters won the individual bronze medal in Jumping at the 1976 Olympic Games of Montreal.

National Champion in Jumping in 1979, 1985 and 1997, Eric Wauters was a dynamic member of the Belgium Federation as member of the Jumping Committee. He also took a very active part in developing the Monaco Equestrian Federation, which was affiliated to the FEI in 1995 and of which he was Secretary General.

Excellent rider, Eric Wauters was also a competent and enthusiastic organiser of national and international shows, such as the Christmas Horse Show of Mechelem (BEL) and the Monaco Horse Show.

Eric Wauters was also the very highly valued Secretary General of the International Jumping Riders Club as well as a recognised journalist, press officer and commentator.

South American Young Rider Championship cancelled
The Brazilian Equestrian Federation just informed the FEI that the Young Riders South American Championship, due to take place in Sao Paulo (BRA) from 3 to 5 December 1999, had to be cancelled after the withdrawal of the main sponsor.

IEOA congress
The International Equestrian Organisers’ Alliance (IEOA) and the organisers of Jumping Amsterdam plan to organise a congress on Saturday and Sunday 4 and 5 December 1999 during the international show Jumping Amsterdam (NED).

Several speakers have been invited, including prominent representatives from other sports. The congress will be divided in three sessions, which will conclude with a panel discussion:

1 - The challenge for the equestrian sport to join the top level of successful and popular sports
2 - Enhancement of the attractiveness of the equestrian sport
3 - Satisfying public, sponsors and TV broadcasters

1998 World Endurance Championship included in the Guinness World Records
The 'Guinness World Records' officially certified the world record for the number of participants in an official equestrian world championship. The certificate was awarded to the FEI World Endurance Championships held between Abu Dhabi and Dubai (UAE) on 10 December 1998. 162 riders from 37 countries participated.
