Invitation to send evidence to the FEI / BHTA Eventing Safety Committee
This is an invitation to ANY interested party to submit evidence at any time until 20 December 1999. Evidence should be sent to the Safety Committee Secretariat.

The Committee convened for its first meeting on 12 October 1999. It agreed that all International and National organisations involved with the sport of Eventing would be invited to give evidence, in writing and/or in person, to the Committee.

The Committee will take oral evidence in London on 11, 12, 13 January 2000 at a venue to be decided. It is hoped that written evidence from those who wish also to give oral evidence can be made available to the Committee before 20 December 1999. It may not be possible to accommodate all who wish to give oral evidence at the January sitting, priority will therefore be given to representative bodies.
Confidentiality will be respected.
After the January sitting of the Safety Committee, further meetings are scheduled in February, March and April and beyond if necessary. At those meetings it is intended that evidence and advice will be sought from other risk sports.

The Safety Committee will deliver its report as soon as possible.
Both the FEI and BHTA have agreed to publish the Safety Committee’s recommendations when completed.

The Committee consists of: Lord HARTINGTON, Chairman; Christopher BARTLE; Prof. Inggar LEREIM; Dr Gerit MATTHESEN; Gerry MULLINS; David O'CONNOR; Mr Michael TUCKER; Mr Jackie STEWART.

All evidence to be sent to:

Samsung Nations Cup: Italy leads the standings
Following Washington International Horse Show on 28 October, which saw the victory of the American team, Italy leads the Samsung Nations 1999/2000 standings with 14 points followed by Switzerland (13 pts) and Ireland (12 pts).

Next Nations Cup will take place on Thursday 11 November 1999 at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Toronto, Canada.

Polly Phillipps/Coral Cove case closed
On 22 August 199, Mrs Polly Phillipps, the talented British Event rider was killed while competing with her horse, Coral Cove, at the Scottish Championship Horse Trial (CIC***).

Mrs Phillipps’ horse Coral Cove tested positive during the 1998 World Equestrian Games in Rome. The FEI Judicial Committee had rendered its decision in April of this year disqualifying Mrs Phillipps, applying a one-month suspension and requiring her to pay part of the costs for the case.

Due to the tragic loss of Polly Phillipps, the FEI cancelled the decision of the Judicial Committee concerning the liability for costs of the FEI judicial procedure.
Mrs Phillipps’ husband has now withdrawn the appeal, which was lodged with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the suspension and the liability for the costs.
Once again, the FEI wishes to convey their most sincere condolences to the family of Polly Phillips.
