Rider Applications Now Available for Schumacher Symposium Oct 1999
Dressage enthusiasts have a chance to ride with Conrad Schumacher of Germany, one of the most successful dressage trainers in the world. The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) will present the 8th Annual USDF National Dressage Symposium on October 23-24 at Prince George's Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Demonstration Riders are needed from Training Level through Grand Prix. Mr. Schumacher is uniquely qualified to give this presentation because he has personally trained students to win 37 gold, silver or bronze medals earned in international competitions, including European Championships, World Championships, and Olympic Games. He coached Sven and Gonnelien Rothenberger to their silver medal team finish and Sven to his individual bronze medal in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He has been named as the official trainer to the British team, and has been selected by the USDF to train the American Advanced Young Riders through a series of annual clinics. To be considered as a demonstration horse/rider, horses must have received at least two scores of 65% or higher, must be sound, and able to work through the back. Riders must have correct seat and aids, be able to accept instruction, and be prepared to be taught. Riders must also submit at least one letter of reference from an instructor or licensed judge who can verify the rider's ability. Applications are available from the USDF office and must be returned to USDF by August 15th along with a videotape. Tickets are now available to attend the Symposium. A three day ticket, which includes additional speakers on Friday, Oct. 22nd, is available for $195. Day-tickets are also available. For more
information about dressage or the USDF National Symposium The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation with more than 34,000 dues-paying members throughout all 50 states. As the national voice of the dressage community, USDF promotes dressage, primarily through educational programs. Membership in USDF is achieved by joining one of the more than 120 affiliated dressage groups, or by joining USDF directly to receive additional benefits of membership. The word "dressage," derived from a French term meaning "training", is a widely used method of training horses through gymnastic exercises. It is also a competitive equestrian sport where horse and rider strive for perfection in the performance of complex "test" patterns. An English style of riding, dressage is one of three equestrian sports in Olympic competition. |
