Equestrian and USET Submit NGB Application to USOC
Gladstone, New Jersey and Lexington, KentuckyApril 2, 2003The United States Equestrian Team (USET) and USA Equestrian (USAE) submitted to the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) today documents containing bylaws and an application to be the Olympic Sport Organization and National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of equestrian. The new organization is to be formally called the United States Equestrian Federation, Inc. and it will be commonly referred to and marketed as U.S. Equestrian. The bylaws and application, as proposed to the USOC Membership & Credentials Committee, will be available on the respective websites of both USAE (www.equestrian.org) and the USET (www.uset.org) before midnight tonight, April 2, 2003. The NGB Working Group of Armand Leone, Jr., Frank V. Lloyd, Kathy K. Meyer, David J. OConnor, Howard Pike, Eric L. Straus, Bonnie B. Jenkins, Lori Rawls, James R. Wolf and counsel John Collins worked extensively on developing the bylaws. The website postings provide for the 30-day public notice for the public hearing to consider the application that is required by the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act and the USOC Bylaws. The USOC Membership and Credentials Committee meeting and Public Hearing will be on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the Denver Airport Gateway Marriott. Representatives from both the USET and USAE will be in attendance. The second and final Public Hearing will be held in September at a date to be determined. The final recognition of the US Equestrian Federation, Inc. as NGB will rest with the USOC Board in the autumn. USAE Vice President, David J. OConnor said, This is an important and exciting step in creating the new organization for the future of equestrian sport. Armand Leone, Jr., USET President, also hailed the submission.
