World Championship Team Short List Announced At Bayer/USET Festival
Of Champions
Gladstone, NJ - June 21, 1998
The United States Equestrian Team (USET) has announced the short listed dressage riders
for the World Championship team at the World Equestrian Games in Rome, Italy in October.
The announcement was made by the USET Executive Committee following the conclusion of the
Miller's/USET Grand Prix Championship presented by Rio Suite Hotel and Casino at the
Bayer/USET Festival of Champions.
The five short listed riders are: |
Guenter Seidel of Encinitas, CA with Graf George
(pictured) and Foltaire, both owned by Dick and Jane Brown

Steffen Peters of Escondido, CA and Grandeur, owned
by Lila Kommerstad

Susan Blinks of Mount Kisco, NY with Delano
(pictured) and Flim Flam, both owned by Dressage Sponsor Corporation

Robert Dover of Flemington, NJ and Lennox, owned by
Jane F. Clarkand Ken Acebal |
and Shelly Francis of Woodstock, VT and Pikant,
owned by Hank Smith |

| Seidel finished the Miller's/USET Grand Prix Championship
with a combined overall score of 70.297%, nearly three points ahead of Reserve Champion
Steffen Peters. Peters rode to second place with a score of 67.797%, while Blinks placed
third with 66.626%, and Dover took fourth with 66.598%. Blinks finished in fifth place
with 66.285% on her other mount, Flim Flam, and Seidel finished in sixth on his other
horse, Foltaire with 66.280%. Francis finished seventh with a score of 66.146%. The
horses and riders on the short list will compete in Europe at Rotterdam, The Netherlands
and Donaueschingen, Germany. Their Grand Prix scores there will be averaged with their
Grand Prix scores in the Miller's/USET Championship to determine the squad of four horse
and rider combinations for the World Equestrian Games.
"It is an honor to be chosen to represent the United States in Europe,"
stated Seidel, the 1998 Miller's/USET Dressage Champion. "I feel we have a very
strong team and have a good chance for a medal in Rome." Seidel will be riding the
popular Graf George, a member of two Olympic Bronze Medal winning teams.
