Donations are now being accepted for the 12th Annual American Horse Publications Student Fund Silent Auction
For more than 10 years, American Horse Publications has been encouraging students seeking careers in equine publishing. In 1993, AHP named its first Student Award winner. In 1998, the association offered a Student Membership category and developed the AHP Internship Handbook. In 2002, the AHP Student Mentoring Program was initiated. To gauge the success of these programs, you only have look at the staffs of AHP members. Numerous college students have interned at AHP members through the Internship Program.
The Student Fund Auction also began in 1993 as a way for members to support current and future student programs. The 12th annual Student Fund silent auction and raffle will be held on Friday evening, June 11, during the AHP Red, White & Bluegrass Seminar in Lexington, Kentucky. Proceeds benefit the Student Award, which rewards a college student pursuing a career in equine publishing with a cash award and an all-expense-paid trip to the annual AHP meeting. The Fund also provides complimentary student membership and seminar registration certificates to all Student Award applicants and supports the Student Mentoring Program and Internship Handbook.
The theme of this years event is Racing Toward Our Future. Activities will include a Derby Hat Contest, an evening at the races, silent auction, raffle and a few surprise guests.
Your donation may include racing-themed items representing the three breeds that race in Lexington Thoroughbred, American Quarter Horse and Standardbred. Kentucky-made or horse items of any kind are always welcome. On behalf of American Horse Publications, thank you for your support of the Student Fund, which encourages young people to become a part of the equine publishing industry.
