NRBC Announces "Reiner Look-Alike" Contest

September 13, 2003 - For the National Reining Breeders Classic Board of Directors, being innovative and leading new trends in the reining industry is a matter of record. The group that created the world's largest added money event is always coming up with something new and different, and fun has long been the watchword for the NRBC's annual show.

In 2004, when the NRBC takes place April 20-24, the trend will continue with a new twist, as the group debuts the "Reiner Look-Alike" contest.

Anyone can enter the contest by creating a life-size dummy with a strong resemblance to someone in the reining world, according to Cheryl Magoteaux, whose Pro Management, Inc. manages the NRBC Program. She explains, "the dummies can resemble an owner, judge or trainer – or even someone famous that is not a reiner!" She explains, "We expect that some barns will create entries, as well as some of the NRHA affiliate groups".

And the winning entries earn not only special trophies, but a donation in the creator's name to their choice of either the Texas Reining Horse Association or the National Reining Horse Association Youth Program. Top prize is $500, with $250 for second and $100 for third.

Magoteaux explains that there's a practical purpose to the dummies, as well. "We'll have them seated in the arena to take the place of the judges and scribes during paid warm-up times," she explained. "That helps familiarize the horses with the feel of the arena and lets warm-up time more closely represent actual competition."

The dummies will also be guests at various NRBC functions throughout the week. Winning entries will be announced, and introduced, during the Victory Party following the Open Finals on Saturday night.

Individuals or groups interested in entering the contest should contact the NRBC office for details.

The National Reining Breeders Classic, based in Byars, Oklahoma, is the most successful stallion incentive program in reining history. In just six years, the NRBC has grown to include over 240 subscribed stallions. For information on the NRBC, visit the web site at www.nrbc.com or call 580-759-3939.
