McQuay and Custom Red Berry Win All American Quarter Horse Congress USET
Qualifier
Columbus, OH - October 23, 2003 - National Reining Horse Association Leading All Time Rider and Evergreen Team member Tim McQuay swept the field of entries to win the United States Equestrian Team Qualifier held October 10 at the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio. McQuay rode Custom Red Berry, to a sizzling 225.5 score to win by a 5.5 point margin over his closest competitor and earn a first place purse of $5,271.75. Custom Red Berry, the National Reining Horse Association's All Time High Money Earning Mare, is owned by Stone Canyon Ranch, the estate of Leanne Bovet Roberts. McQuay noted, "It's great to ride a mare with this much talent," but noted that it had taken some time to get her into top show condition. Not only had the 7-year-old mare been laid off for embryo transfers, she'd also had surgery to remove a bone chip in her hock. "We feel she's in really good shape now, and our feeding program with Evergreen is a big factor. We've had people tell us she looks as good as she did as a 3-year-old!" said McQuay. "The feed provides the right energy level and we can keep her feeling great without her getting too heavy. He noted that the feed formula has also helped promote increased bone density which aided in the recovery from surgery. Having won the first US Equestrian Team Qualifier for the 2004 Championship, Tim McQuay and Custom Red Berry are slated to compete in the last one of the season, which takes place at the National Reining Breeders Classic, April 20-25 in Katy, Texas. "That class is combined with the NRBC $20,000 Added Open," McQuay explained, "which makes it a $30,000 Open reining. Plus it's just been designated as a CRI Qualifier for the FEI Masters Series. We'll just stay on the same program with her and she should be even more ready to be competitive by then!" Evergreen President Art Dean was quick to congratulate McQuay on the win. "We're proud to have Tim on the Evergreen Team. His incredible talent and success make him a perfect representative for our superior products."
