First NRCHA World Champions - The Class of 2003
A Snowballs Chance!
When planning a trip across the country in February, chances are pretty good you might see a variety of weather. When you bring together a melting pot of folks from all over the United States for a World Class event, someone is due for a change!
World Show planners said it would be their worst nightmare if it snowed in Stephenville the week of February 25th. Always possible in Texas, the previously mild winter had planners holding their breath that all might be just balmy. Didnt happen. Well know for its capriciousness, Texas decided to put the immigrants to the test, and threw the weather book at hardy World Show contenders.
Nonplussed, the buoyant contenders looked the Texas weather right in the eye and did what any normal ranch cowboy would do in that situation they had a snowball fight! And then saddled up and rode out to get the business done, NRCHA style.
Said Mona Malone, Youth Limited Champion Clints mom, Wow, what a great time we had in Stephenville, Texas. Being from Florida, the weather was a little interesting but the kids LOVED the snow. I even got in on some snowball fights! Lynn Anderson, of Madera, California added, I heard the weather man say it was snowing in Stephenville, so I looked outside and it sure enough was She added, My truck door froze shut! Gary Stark, of Nampa, Idaho said, I appreciated the snow it made my horse feel right at home, and kept him from getting too hot! And finally, relative local, Tammy Jo Hays, from St Jo, Texas (and on the show committee) said, It was our worst case scenario, the weather threw everything at us it could, but it just didnt seem to matter. The show ran well, we never got late, and the crowd was bigger than we dreamed of. It beat everyones expectations by a mile! |
