A Rodeo Town Becomes A Cow Horse Town! Stephenville, TX - February 18, 2005 - The Bayer Legend™ Celebration of Champions doesn’t begin until Saturday, February 19, but the small Texas town of Stephenville is already feeling its impact. Allison Trimble of Washington was the first to arrive Wednesday with New Mexico’s Chuck Baltazar pulling in close behind. Both will compete in the Southwest Reined Cow Horse Association Derby, which begins Saturday at 9 a.m. A steady line of traffic from across the country trickles into Stephenville’s Lone Star Arena as horses representing 22 states (including Hawaii) and two Canadian provinces arrive at the event. The National Reined Cow Horse Association’s second annual World Championship Show will bring nearly 300 entries competing in 11 classes. Add that to the Derby and World’s Greatest Horseman exhibitors and there is a whole new meaning to Stephenville’s title as the “Cowboy Capital of the World.” The Bayer Legend™ Celebration of Champions is represented by past NRCHA, AQHA and APHA World Champions and the 2004 AQHA World Show Superhorse. The top trainers and competitors in the nation will compete in open competition as tomorrow’s leading exhibitors vie for two Youth World titles. The Derby prelims kick off the action Saturday morning with festivities continuing through February 26. There is no admission charge to the event, and attendees will also enjoy the Celebration of Champions Trade Show. The National Reined Cow Horse Association, the 56-year-old governing body of cow horse competition, is responsible for promoting the sport, insuring high standards of competition and educating members and the public about the history and tradition of the cow horse. Through the support of a Corporate Partner family that includes Bayer Corporation, Bob's Custom Saddles, Cinch, Inc., Classic Equine, EQ Solutions, MD Barns, Platinum Performance, Inc., Nutrena, Skyline Gold and Silversmiths, Sundowner Trailers, National Ropers Supply, Quarter Horse News & Western Horseman magazine, the Reno Hilton, Dan Gamel's RV Centers, Farnam products Vetrolin Liniment and Farnam dewormers IverCare, ComboCare, LiquiCare P and Continuex, Fort Dodge West Nile Innovator, Rios of Mercedes, Great American Insurance Company and the Silver Legacy, the association works to keep the vaquero tradition alive in today’s equine industry.
