Posted April 2, 2006 Russell Dilday Wins 2006 NRCHA Stakes Open Bridle Spectacular The Open Bridle Spectacular highlighted the 2006 National Reined Cow Horse Association Stakes action Saturday, April 1, with Russell Dilday and Topsails Rien Maker winning the Championship. The Stakes, which began Wednesday, March 29 at the Idaho Horse Park in Nampa, will close Sunday, April 2, with the main event – the Stakes Finals. Topsails Rien Maker, by Topsail Cody and out of Jameen Gay, owned by Kevin Cantrelle of Raymond, California, was the 2004 NRCHA Open Hackamore World Champion. In the Open Bridle Spectacular at the Stakes, Russell and the stallion he calls Slider marked a 216.5 in the herd, a 217 in the rein work and a 223.5 down the fence to win the class by 1.5 points, along with a check for $5,670. “He was wonderful today,” Russell said of Slider. “The cattle were so tough. That cow came out and I thought he was going to be kind of rotten but Slider just stayed right there where he needed to be. He was great in the reining and great in the cutting too. He’s just a great little horse.” Russell attributes Slider’s success to sheer talent. By National Reining Horse Association Hall of Fame Horse Topsail Cody, Slider packs a powerful slide in the reining pattern. And although he’s relatively small in size, even the toughest cattle fail to intimidate him. “He’s totally natural. He’s just always been a gritty little guy and he can run so fast. In this arena, Slider, the cow and myself all hit the fence, hard. We got a one-point marker but the cattle were really tough. We hit the fence so hard that I hit it over the top of him and when they came out, he came out circling without me.” Justin Bailey won both the Championship and Reserve in the Limited Open Bridle, which ran concurrently with the Open Saturday afternoon. Riding, Docs Legacy Chex, by Doctors Kit and out of Legacy Chex, Justin marked a 428 to win the first-place check of $1,680 for Jana Anderson of Medina, Washington. The young horseman, who works for Dan Roeser in nearby Marsing, Idaho, earned the reserve and an additional $1,260 with Easy Move Whiskey, by Paddys Irish Whiskey and out of Movin Easy Lena, owned by Al and Carol Rebsom of Billings, Montana. The action began Saturday morning when the Open Hackamore and Limited Open Hackamore classes kicked off a full day of horse show competition. Madera, California, trainer Lyn Anderson picked up the Open Hackamore Championship after marking a 435 composite. Riding Im Smart And Classy, by Tangys Classy Peppy and out of Smart Bikini Chex, owned by Roger and Michelle Redding, Lyn earned $3,072 for the win. The Limited Open Hackamore ran concurrently with the Open and Jennifer Maynard, Stephenville, Texas, picked up the win riding Call Me Docs Hickory, by Doc’s Hickory and out of Call Me Cali Olena, owned by Jennifer, along with Michael Neville of Buhl, Idaho. Jennifer and Call Me Docs Hickory earned $1,500 for their 414 composite score. Tish Wilhite and 2005 NRCHA Non Pro Hackamore National Champion Classy Luna topped the Non Pro Hackamore class.
