National Reining Breeders Classic – Another Million Dollar Year

2006 Show Could Produce a New Million Dollar Sire

Last year’s National Reining Breeders Classic exceeded the organization’s expectations by reaching a $1 million payout, and also by honoring Dell Hendricks as a National Reining Horse Association Million Dollar Rider and Custom Crome as an NRHA Million Dollar Sire. The 2006 NRBC is set to exceed last year’s payout and may just crown another NRHA Million Dollar Sire.

Lil Ruf Peppy, by the legendary Peppy San Badger and out of Rufas Peppy, has sired offspring earning $992,588 in NRHA competition. The 15-year-old stallion, owned Wallis Winegar’s Green Valley Ranch in Aubrey, Texas, is just $7,412 shy of becoming the NRHA’s next Million Dollar Sire. Nine entries sired by Lil Ruf Peppy are scheduled to compete in the Classic Open divisions, with an additional six entries in the Non Pro Classic, which gives him a huge chance to hit the million-dollar mark. Lil Ruf Peppy would be the 10th NRHA Million Dollar Sire, joining the ranks of Hollywood Jac 86, Be Aech Enterprise, Hollywood Dun It, Topsail Cody, Smart Chic Olena, Topsail Whiz, Shining Spark, Reminic, Gallo Del Cielo and Custom Crome.

With more than 300 entries in the Classic and because the organization is backed by an exceptional group of sponsors, the 2006 NRBC will award more than $1 million in prize money between the Classic and horse show classes. And, each of the NRHA’s Million Dollar Riders – Bill Horn, Shawn Flarida, Duane Latimer, Todd Bergen, Dell Hendricks, Craig Schmersal and Two Million Dollar Rider Tim McQuay – are in Katy, Texas, making this year’s NRBC experience even richer. The NRBC begins Tuesday, April 18, at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas, and runs through Sunday, April 23. For a complete schedule of events, please visit www.nrbc.com.

The National Reining Breeders Classic is the most successful stallion incentive program in reining history. In just nine years, the NRBC has grown to include over 275 subscribed stallions and more than 18,000 enrolled foals.
