Junior Jumpers Take their Turn at The USET Festival of Champions

by Diana De Rosa

Georgina Bloomberg and Husker DuThanks to BET on Jazz, the Junior Jumpers were able to compete in a series of talent derbies in the Festival of Champions at Gladstone, NJ. On Friday, June 22, Jonathan Phillips won the $2,500 class on Prins. On Saturday, June 23, Georgina Bloomberg tied for first place with two of her horses: Husker Du and Action. On Sunday, June 24 Bloomberg did it again. This time on Husker Du.

Bloomberg, New York, NY, who at 18 (17 by AHSA rules) is in her last year as a junior rider, has won numerous honors but none of them in equitation. "I've never shown in equitation, never have, never will," she emphatically states.

Bloomberg does show in the hunters as well as the jumpers but finds changing from one form of riding to the other is not easy for her, especially going from the jumpers to the hunters. "I get flustered when my classes are happening at the same time," she explains.
