Competition Continues To Select USET Show Jumping Team for World Equestrian Games

Del Mar, CA- July 21, 2002— Four horse-and-rider combinations turned in clear rounds in Selection Trial #2 Sunday in the United States Equestrian Team (USET) Show Jumping Selection Trials. Immediately following Selection Trial #2, six horse-and-rider combinations posted clear rounds in Selection Trial #3. The trials for the World Equestrian Games, which will be held this September in Jerez, Spain, began Saturday at the Del Mar Horse Park in Del Mar, CA.

The field of thirty-eight horse-and rider combinations were asked to jump the exact course with the same time allowed of seventy-five seconds in both Selection Trial #2 and Selection Trial #3.

Only four horse-and-rider combinations left all the jumps standing in Selection Trial #2, and eleven combinations finished with just one rail down to give them a four fault score. Those turning in clear performances were the following:

1. Margie Goldstein Engle/ Hidden Creek’s Perin
2. Leslie Howard/ Priobert de Kalvarie
3. Schuyler Riley/ Ilian
4. Norman Dello Joio/ Glasgow

After the horses and riders jumped the course once, more clear round performances along with nine four-fault rounds were produced in Trial #3. Those riding fault-free in Selection Trial #3 were the following:

1. Lauren Hough/ Clasiko
2. Ray Texel/ Lexicon
3. Ray Texel/ Fleur
4. Peter Wylde/ Fein Cera
5. Alison Firestone/ Casanova
6. Lauren Hough/ Windy City

For the remaining three trials, the competition will move up the coast to the Oaks/Blenheim in San Juan Capistrano, CA where trials with run July 26-28.
