and Roper Victorious at Junior Hunter Finals August 16, 2002-Whitney Roper, 16, of Rumson, New Jersey and Jamie Taylor, 18, of Tarzana, California, were Overall Grand Champions of the 2002 Monarch International/USA National Junior Hunter Championships, East and West Coast respectively. Taylor rode King of Hearts, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Claire Birnbaum to the Overall West Coast Grand Championship, held at the Oaks Blenheim Exhibitions in San Juan Capistrano, CA, July 22-23, 2002. Roper and her mount, 12-year-old Warmblood gelding Saloon, rode to the top spot to capture the Overall East Coast Grand Championship, held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, August 12-13, 2002. Riders qualified for these events by winning a champion or reserve champion at an "A" or "AA" rated USA Equestrian competition between July 16, 2001 and July 15, 2002. Competitors had the option of competing in either the West Coast Finals or East Coast Finals but not both.
