FEI World Breeding Championships Jumping for Young Horses 2002 September 30, 2002 - 6-year old horses: SBS-bred Mozart des Hayettes wins finals of the 6-yr-olds, silver and bronze go to Studbook Zangersheide The results of the two finals of the 5- and 6-yr-old youngsters abundantly show the dominance of the Belgian studbooks. The 5-yr-old category was won by the BWP-bred Ultra-Top vant Paradijs with Belgian rider Johan Rooms and the world title in the category for 6-yr-olds went to the SBS-bred Mozart des Hayettes (Papillon Rouge x Nimmerdor) also ridden by a Belgian rider, Gregory Wathelet. The second and third places were a silver-bronze ovation for Studbook Zangersheide with in second place the British Guy Goosen on Cayleigh Z from breeder Paul Schockemöhle and in third place the Spanish Alfredo Duran on the Z-branded Carpe Diem Z (Calvin Z x Cor de la Bryère. Under a glorious sun, thirty 6-yr-olds entered the ring to give their best before a packed crowd. In the end, after the first round only seven riders had managed to keep their 6-yr-old horses from banging the wood. In the jump-off Gregory Wathelet, a young Belgian rider from Walonian Clavier (near Durbuy in the Ardennes), who has rapidly developed a fine reputation with young horses in Belgium, set the pace so high on his stallion Mozart des Hayettes that the competition, no matter how hard they tried, failed to beat his time of 39.32 seconds. Quite remarkable were the second and third place for Studbook Zangersheide. This studbook has started registering foals barely eight years ago and now already has two Z-branded products on the honourary stands. In other words: in the club of established studbooks within the WBFSH Studbook Zangersheide is becoming a fearsome candidate for the prizes. Cayleigh Z and Carpe Diem Z are two very typical Zangersheide products. Cayleigh is by Calvin Z out of Roxan Z (Ramiro Z xArgentina Z x Heureka Z). Carpe Diem Z is by Cleopatra Z (Cor de la Bryère x Reurika Z x Ramiro Z x Heureka Z.. And that, in other words is twice the Z-quality label with which Heureka Z put Zangersheide on the world map. 7-year old horses: Gold and silver for KWPN, bronze for Studbook Zangersheide and Jos Lansink The first
two gold medals of the World Championship for Young Horses at Zangersheide
went to, respectively, BWP (5-yr-olds) and SBS (6-yr-olds). The gold
and silver in the 6-yr-old category for Studbook Zangersheide made this
first half of these finals an all-Belgian affair. The KWPN put things
right in the finals for 7-yr-olds, when Peter Geerink on No Time (Epilot
x Almé Z) snatched the gold away before the nose of Australian
rider James Patterson-Robinson on Miss Hans (Wolfgang x Gambit). The
KWPN triumph was briefly hazarded by Jos Lansink, who piloted AK Chellano
Z (Contender x Cor de la Bryère) around fast but just a few hundredths
of seconds short. This was nevertheless good for a third place and a
bronze medal, the third medal for the still very young Studbook Zangersheide.
The Brazilian De Azevedo on Lord Ritter (Landritter x Bubis) finished
in fourth place and number five was the BWP product Splendid van de
Heffinck (Heartbreaker x Pachat II). Of the thirty-two 7-yr-olds starting
in the finals, eight went clear in the basic course. |
