Phillips Wins 2003 BET/USAE National Junior Jumper Champioship
Zone Two Takes Team Title Harrisburg, PA - October 13, 2003 - Addison Phillips, 14, of New York, NY, and her mount FLIGHT (Swedish Warmblood), bested a field of 27 riders to win the 2003 BET/USAE Individual National Junior Jumper Championship held October 9 - 11, at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA. Phillips and Flight finished ahead of 18-year-old Paige Johnson of The Plains, VA, and her mount BEACH BUM (Dutch Warmblood). Katie Gardner, 18, of Westlake Village, CA, and CE CE CAPONE (Holsteiner: Campione Calica, by Labrador) finished in third. The BET/USAE Prix de States Team Championship title was decided on October 10, with Zone Two (New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania) taking the top spot in this USA Junior Olympic Equestrian Event. The winning team, finishing with four faults, was made up of Katrina Woods of Bronxville, NY, riding SUSDAL, Leigh Healey of Lumberton, NJ, riding LAURIN (Belgian Warmblood), Kenzie Snyder of Westchester, PA, riding AQUARIUS (Selle Francais: Grand Veneur - Olga de la Lande, by St Brendan (GB) xx) and Addison Phillips riding FLIGHT. The Zone 10 (California, Nevada) team made up of Katie Gardner riding CE CE CAPONE, Tedra Bates of Carmel, CA, riding EUROPA EINS (Holsteiner: Locato Nicol, by Farnese), Katy Brandes of San Juan Capistrano, CA, riding ODESSA VAN DE SOMME (Belgian Warmblood: Voltaire Wodiena), and Jordan Lubow of Bell Canyon, CA, riding EL CAMPEONS JO JO (Belgian Warmblood: Jovial dAubry - Fifille de la Quaire, by Osiris XX), finished in second place with eight faults. Zone Five (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio) made up of Alison Flury of Minooka, IL, riding MILOS II (Dutch Warmblood), Haylie Jayne of Elgin, IL, riding KINDA BLUE (Dutch Warmblood: Rex Magna xx Viola), Henry Pfeiffer of Temperance, MI, riding ELTON (Belgian Warmblood: Elton - Palma Christi), and Charlie Jayne of Elgin, IL, riding CHAMPION finished in third with 16 faults. The BET/USAE National Junior Jumper Championship is considered a USA Junior Olympic Equestrian Event and, as such, the top three teams received Gold, Silver and Bronze Junior Olympic Medals. The name of the winning team is inscribed on the Frances Newbill Rowe Memorial Trophy, named in honor of the top jumper trainer of the 1960s and 1970s. Winning team riders were awarded keeper trophies and both the team and individual winners received Triple Crown Custom awards blankets and custom boots from Der-Dau. |
