Rider Samantha Kleinfield Takes Children’s Hunter Championship at
the 29th Annual Hampton Classic
Bridgehampton, NY – August 31, 2004 — Samantha Kleinfield of Watermill, NY, rode away from the Hampton Classic Horse Show on Tuesday, August 31, with a Children’s Hunter Championship title. Riding Henry, Kleinfield competed in two jumping phases, winning one and placing second in the other, and was also second in the hack phase, giving her enough points to claim the overall championship title in the Children’s Hunter Horse Division ‘A’ for riders aged 15-17. Kleinfield has only been riding Henry, who is owned by Martin Dean of Clearview, NY, since June, but the pair has quickly formed a strong partnership. “One thing that is unique about Henry is that he doesn’t have cartilage in his ears, so they hang down to the side,” laughed Kleinfield, who also competed on Manhattan Mortgage Company’s Opening Day on Sunday, August 29. “Everyone always remembers him because of that! He can get cranky outside of the ring, and he doesn’t like people touching his ears, but he is a very sweet, honest horse.” The Championship title was the third one that Kleinfield has earned at the Hampton Classic. Her initial taste of success came the first time she ever competed at the Hampton Classic in the short stirrup division astride a pony she was loaned after her own became sick. Her second Championship title came two years ago when she rode Harrisburg in the Children’s Hunter Horse division. Now entering her senior year at Trinity School in New York City, Kleinfield has trained with Jagger and Mandy Topping of Swan Creek Farms in Bridgehampton, NY, her entire show career. In fact, she was first introduced to riding when she attended the Swan Creek pony camp as a youngster. She loved it, and decided to make horses a permanent part of her life. Ever since, she has traveled every weekend from New York City to Long Island where her horses are stabled, and spends her entire summer on the Island. Each year, the Hampton Classic Horse Show attracts more than 50,000 spectators and celebrities to watch the country’s best horses and riders compete. One of the nation’s premier show jumping competitions, the Hampton Classic boasts jam-packed social events and equestrian competitions from August 29 to September 5, culminating with the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix on Sunday, September 5. Boutiques are open for shopping, numerous restaurants offer on-site dining options, and there are many activities for family fun. Admission is $10 per person or $20 per carload, with children under six admitted free. Reserved grandstand seating for Sunday, September 5, is $15 per person (in addition to regular admission) or $25 per person in the special Premium Seating center sections.
