Aron and Jamaica Enjoy Stylish Win in $25,000 Calvin Klein Jeans Derby
at the 29th Annual Hampton Classic
Bridgehampton, NY – September 5, 2004 — Aimee Aron of Keswick, VA, enjoyed yet another win at the Hampton Classic Horse Show, scoring victory in the $25,000 Calvin Klein Jeans Show Jumping Derby on ‘Grand Prix Sunday’. Aron, who won Wednesday’s $10,000 Jaguar Open Jumper Competition as well as Saturday’s $30,000 GGET Six-Year-Old Young Jumper Championship Finals, was among the top 30 junior and amateur riders to qualify for Sunday’s $25,000 Calvin Klein Jeans Show Jumping Derby on September 5. While eight horses moved forward to the jump-off, 15-year-old Aron set a blistering fast pace of 35.02 seconds riding Jamaica that could not be beat. As the final rider on course, 15-year-old Addison Phillips of New York, NY, winner of Saturday’s $10,000 Calvin Klein Jeans Equitation Championship, came close with a time of 35.79 seconds, but she was not fast enough to catch Aron. “She is a wonderful mare,” praised Aron of the 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood purchased almost five years ago from Olympian Emile Hendrix of the Netherlands. “No one has ever shown her except for me since we bought her, so we have a very special bond. She’s incredible.” Aron, who is entering grade 10 in Virginia, trains with Sydney Olympian Laura Kraut of Oconomowoc, WI. While they aren’t exactly next-door neighbors, Kraut and Aron spend the summer competing together and, during the rest of the year, meet up at horse shows. Finishing in third place was Paige Johnson of The Plains, VA, who was also clear in a time of 38.66 seconds riding Reddy Teddy while fourth place went to Christian Currey of Franklin, TN, with Point Blank. Gabby Slome of Riverdale, NY, was the only other rider to go double clear, placing fifth with Espina du Manoir. |
