Art Show “The Horse: In & Out” Presented At 121st National Horse Show & Family Festival Wellington, FL – November 19, 2004 – Samson Projects, Boston’s newest contemporary gallery, will mount an equestrian-themed art show entitled “The Horse: In & Out” from Thursday, December 2, through Sunday, December 5, at the 121st National Horse Show & Family Festival in Wellington, Florida. When horse show fans pick up their tickets and pass through the Spectator Entrance Gate of the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club on Equestrian Road, they will enter the specially erected art gallery tent and be treated to an extraordinary exhibit. The 20’ x 30’ tent will display two 30-foot walls of fabulous equestrian art. Featured artists include Sutapa Biswas, Stephen Pace, Malcolm Morley, Steven Klein, Marino Marini, Joe Andoe, Ashley Collins, Brendan Killian, Christina Lanzl, Jeanine Oleson and Ellen Lesperance. On Friday evening, December 3, when the 121st National Horse Show & Family Festival presents “Jumping Under The Stars,” Samson Projects will host a Cocktail Party with wine and cheese from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the art exhibit tent. The public is welcome. Competition in the International Arena begins at 7:00 PM and the art exhibit will remain open that evening to accommodate horse show attendees, patrons of the Black Tie Gala, and Studio 54 after-party. Samson Projects Director Camilo Alvarez organized the art show. “The makeup of the artists in ‘The Horse: In & Out’ is quite varied,” Alvarez noted. “There are some are very well known artists, such as Marino Marini who is quite famous, some are very young, some are deceased, and some still living. I wanted to keep it very diverse and mostly two-dimensional. There’s a little bit of everything – photography, painting, and drawing. It all has horse imagery in it. The work in this show is really good and very interesting.” Alvarez is a curator of contemporary art who has experience ranging from the traditional to the experimental. He has worked at museums, commercial galleries, and alternative spaces, as well as in art consultation and installation. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. Alvarez has worked as a curatorial assistant in European Painting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC’s Exit Art/The First World, and other galleries. In 2002, he served as Program Associate at the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture coordinating the summer visual arts residency program. He organized the 2004 Max Wasserman Forum on Contemporary Art for MIT's List Visual Arts Center with panelists Frank Gehry, Robert Venturi, James Ackerman, Kimberly Alexander and Kyong Park. Earlier this year, Alvarez co-founded Samson Projects in Boston, Massachusetts, with his partner Alexandra Cherubini, and this fall opened a new storefront at 450 Harrison Avenue. Samson Projects co-founder Alexandra Cherubini is an accomplished equestrian and active competitor who shows hunters and jumpers throughout the United States. She also heads up Equifit, which produces ShouldersBack, a garment developed by orthopedists and designed to gently pull the shoulders back and hold them in proper position without hyper-extending the lower back. EquiFit's ShouldersBack was included in the exhibition “Extreme Beauty: The Body Transformed” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Samson Projects is a resource for those interested in acquiring and learning more about contemporary art. An extensive inventory is always on display at the gallery in Boston and Alvarez can procure the work of a particular artist. At the newly opened Harrison Avenue location, Samson Projects blends the best elements of a commercial gallery with the experimental attitude of an alternative exhibition space, introducing emerging and under-recognized artists as well as established artists in film, video, performance, music, design and visual art. “The Horse: In & Out” will be open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, from Thursday, December 2 through Sunday, December 5, with evening hours on December 3, and by appointment. The 121st National Horse Show & Family Festival runs from November 30th through December 5th at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club.
