Photo by Dirk CaremansWellington, FL– June 7, 2005 – New York City’s Georgina Bloomberg’s summer tour of show jumping resumes at the Spruce Meadows show facility in Calgary, Alberta, Canada this week following a tremendously successful European debut at the Samsung Super League. The Samsung Super League pits four member equestrian teams from eight nations against each other in a head to head summer long battle for international supremacy.

At La Baule France, the first of eight stops on the Samsung Super League tour, Bloomberg was an integral part of the four member United States squad that came home victorious in Round One. That victory, combined with second and fourth place finishes at the next two stops in Rome, Italy and in St. Gallen, Switzerland have propelled the United States to the top of the leader board with five Super League events remaining.

Bloomberg, a rookie on the international big league tour, posted dramatic results in her first three stops in Europe this summer beginning in La Baule. In addition to the Samsung Super League win, Bloomberg won the hotly contested Prix PMU Speed Derby Table A Against the Clock on Sunday afternoon. She was honored later that afternoon with the highly coveted Style of Riding award, completing a great first week.

Bloomberg’s trainer, Jimmy Doyle, said her performance in Europe was fantastic. “For a rookie on the big time tour, I’d give her a 10 for sure! Pressure seems to run off of her like water,” he laughed. “She’s cool and calm and her performances against some of the best in the world have shown that. Doyle went on to say that Bloomberg’s communication with her horses is what sets her apart. “Her horses really like her. They really jump well for her and they want to jump well and they try very hard for her. It goes back to her coolness under pressure,” Doyle explained. “Horses can feel tension and there is none of that with Georgina.”

On the second and third legs of the tour in Rome, Italy and St. Gallen, Switzerland, notched four additional top finishes including three second place finishes, two of which were to 2001 World Cup Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist, Markus Fuchs of Switzerland. “She almost caught him in the Saturday class but he (Fuchs) had the advantage of going after her,” noted Doyle. “Markus nipped Georgina’s time by 2/10ths of a second.”

Following a week off, Bloomberg begins competition in Canada on June 15th, 2005 at The Continental, the first of three shows over four weeks at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Featured events include a Junior/Amateur Nations Cup, three $25,000 Grand Prix and the $100,000 CN Performance Grand Prix, a World Cup Qualifying class.
