| Celebrity Friesen Stallion Will Dance to the
Music at Devon
It may be to the rocking Rolling
Stones. Or it may be to funky James Brown. Or Beethoven. Or Broadway.
Or something altogether different. The only thing that is certain
is that Jorrit, the Friesian stallion, will be dancing to the
music at Dressage at Devon.
Jorrit will be performing his exquisite movements with his rider,
Sabine Schut of Dusseldorf, Germany, on the evenings of Friday,
October 1 and Saturday, October 2. He will also be joined by his
Friesian stablemates for an elegant quadrille.
Jorrit is a large, flashy horse, with the glossy black coat,
dramatic flowing mane and tail, and thick "feathers"
of hair above his feet that are characteristic of the Friesian
breed. Named for the Dutch province bordering the North Sea, Friesians
originated in the Netherlands almost 500 years ago. The 12-year-old
stallion's penchant for performing made him a favorite of show
goers in Europe, where he performed with great success before
relocating to Proud Meadows in Cedar Hill, Texas in 1997.
Schut recognized early on Jorrit's delightful forward, free movement
and natural athleticism. She used his talents to build his skills
at dressage, the classical equestrian discipline. His strength
has always been performing freestyle to music, and Schut says
he prefers to select his own music, listening to each piece and
clearly indicating his preferences. At his final performance in
Europe, the German Dressage Federation of Judges awarded Jorrit
and Sabine a perfect score of 10 for their presentation in the
musical freestyle the first and only perfect score ever granted
by this authority.
Since he has been in this country, Jorrit has been featured at
a number of top equestrian events, and performed on the Today
Show and at Rockefeller Center.
