The Purebred Spanish Horse - The Stars of the 2002 World Equestrian Games
But more than just a sport horse, this breed is as diverse in its abilities, as the changing countryside in which they reside. Kind and friendly, beautiful and athletic, they are also the perfect pleasure horse. As we travel through the hot dry land of southern Andalusia, we see examples of the breed living among the sheep, and in dusty fields with little greenery upon which to graze. Yet they are hearty easy keepers. The breed originated in this region before the Romans spoke of them in their writings. Their popularity in America is rapidly on the rise. Making a wonderful pleasure horse as well as a perfect mount for the amateur rider, they have also earned the respect from such professionals as Carole Grant, and David de Wispelaire as a highly marketable horse in America. Janne Rumbough was one of the first to recognize the values of these horses, purchasing the stallion Gaucho, and brining him to America. In the years that have followed, their appeal continues to grow, and the acceptance of the breed by top trainers has supported their value. |
