| The
Purebred Spanish Horse - The Stars of the 2002 World Equestrian Games
by Mary Phelps-Hathaway
The awareness of this breed in America began in Atlanta, at the 1996 Olympic Games, with Evento and Ignacio Rambala, whose endless piaffe and correct movements were accepted by the judges, and delighted the crowds. Wherever they competed, they continued to establish their place among the long leggy European breeds. With their flair, yet correctness, performed by the country's riders, Ignacio Rambla, Rafael Soto, and Juan Antonio Jimenez Cobo, Spain took to the podium earning the Team Bronze Medal, in their home country. Individual Silver medalist, and team member Beatriz Ferrer-Salat Serra, the only rider who competes on a German horse, Beauvalais, a Hannoverian, has two young Spanish horses, although admittedly the tall and leggy rider prefers the German horse for competition. |
