They Didn't Win A Medal, But They Won Our Hearts Notable Rides At 2002 WEG

Schooling At The WEG?

Daniel de Carva Pinto and Weldon Surprise

If your test doesn't seem to be going well, perhaps a look at the video will help show where the problems are – but during your ride? Daniel de Carva Pinto of Portugal on Weldon Surprise was having a nice test in the Grand Prix until the half pass when his horse demonstrated an almost hobbled-looking movement, but that was not as distracting as when the horse quit in the piaffe and his rider turned from his position at A to calmly look up and watch himself in the huge video screen above C! When he was satisfied with the look, he moved on to perform the rest of the test, but apparently the quick 'school' did not help – Weldon Surprise stalled out on the next piaffe also. In the canter work, Weldon Surprise showed nice tempi changes. Coming down centerline, the horse had one more chance at piaffe, but again, not for him today! De Carva smiled and patted his horse after the halt. The pair finished with 60.320% for 63rd place – ending their competition at this year's WEG.
