2002 World Equestrian Games Williams and Carrick Impeccable
In spite of a smooth, confident trip through the first half of the course, Amy Tryon met with a bad exchange at the fourteenth fence, the 'Euro'. A three part complex shaped like the symbol for the new European currency, it offered a long two stride distance from the first element to the second, a narrow corner, and tripped up more than one competitor over the day. Poggio II had an awkward take off at the second element, sending Tryon for a hard landing. After resting for a couple of minutes to regain her breath, she continued gamely on to complete the course with no further problems. The US team's successes on the technically difficult cross country course put them firmly into the lead, with Williams sitting in first place on a score of 37.00, and Vinoski in fifth with a mere 7.6 points more. O'Connor sat in fourteenth place with 64.60 points, and Tryon, due to the fall and unavoidable time penalties, was forty-ninth with 163.60. |
