Charro Geraldo Diaz to Perform at the Metropolitan National Horse Show
New York City, NY - September 29, 2003 - Internationally famous Mexican charro Geraldo "Jerry" Diaz will entertain audiences each day at the new Metropolitan National Horse Show on October 29 to November 2, 2003. Located at Pier 94 and the Show Piers on the Hudson Complex in Manhattan, the Metropolitan Horse Show will also feature other exciting equestrian action including show jumping and dressage. "We invited Jerry to return to New York in part because of his tremendous popularity when he last appeared at the 1998 National Horse Show in Madison Square Garden," stated Alan Balch, President of the National Horse Show Association of America. "Jerry's schedule is so busy that we are very lucky to have him with us to inaugurate the Metropolitan National in our new venue." A charro is a skilled Mexican horseman, with the Charro tradition going back to roots in the 17th century. The charro, who developed the customs, dress, music and equestrian abilities later borrowed by the American cowboy, dresses in traditional costume and is an expert horseman and trick roper. The charro's strict code of honor includes chivalry, high ethics, expert horsemanship, and a dedication to family and charro traditions. Diaz and his horses showcase the charro tradition in an entertaining performance that will delight all spectators. In addition to his exemplary horsemanship and rope artistry, Diaz is a gifted singer and recording artist. Diaz has performed at the Belmont Horse Fair in Elmont, NY, the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo in Denver, CO, the American Royal Stock Show in Kansas City, MO, the Houston Stock Show in Houston, TX, and at many other top equine events. A former Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Entertainer of the Year, Diaz has appeared on Good Morning America and in numerous television commercials.
