Metropolitan National Horse Show Announces Facility Details
New York City, NY - October 8, 2003 - The National Horse Show Association of America (NHSAA) announced further details today regarding the facility and the quantity of competitors for the Metropolitan National Horse Show on October 29 to November 2 in New York City, NY. The Metropolitan National Horse Show will take place at Pier 94 and the Show Piers on the Hudson Complex in Manhattan. Pier 94, at 55th Street and 12th Avenue on the west side of mid-town Manhattan, includes one of the largest clear-span spaces in New York City. The arena measures approximately 85' wide by 270' long, and no posts obstruct viewing, competing, or schooling on the pier. The schooling paddock is 60' wide by 165' long and is unobstructed by posts or columns. Schooling takes place next to the arena, and the schooling area will be divided into sections restricted for both flat work and jumping. During daylight hours, modern skylights provide abundant natural light in the arena and schooling paddock. During the evening, special event lighting supplements and brightens the arena beyond standard house lights. Additionally, the entire facility is completely climate controlled with full heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. "For this first year of the Metropolitan, in our unique new venue at Pier 94, we were really pleased with the enormous quantity and quality of entries we received," stated show manager Bob Bell. "The only problem was that we had to put so many well-qualified exhibitors onto our wait lists for now, while people make their final decisions on what to show in. We have participation from 31 out of the 50 states, which is amazing, and the quality is very strong from the USA Equestrian ranking lists, too." "We're also very happy to be able to offer our competitors a superior facility for showing and schooling. Access to feed and bedding is close to the stalls, and wash rack facilities are nearby. Best of all, spectators may view activities in the stabling area from the ends of the barn aisles, while the main access aisle is restricted to horse traffic." The NHSAA is managing three shows this year: the Metropolitan National Horse Show (New York City, NY), the National Horse Show Indoor Championships (Las Vegas, NV), and the National Horse Show Outdoor Championships (Wellington, FL). All three shows will be rated "AA" by the national federation. Started in 1883, this is the 120th year for the National Horse Show Association of America. Tickets are now on sale for all three shows.
