Movie Stars Seabiscuit and War Admiral To Appear at the Metropolitan National Horse Show

New York City, NY - October 14, 2003 - On November 1, 1938, the legendary match race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral took place. This year, on the 65th anniversary of that legendary race, the champions will meet again. Two of the equine actors from the movie Seabiscuit will greet the crowd daily at the Metropolitan National Horse Show (MNHS) on October 29 to November 2 in New York City, NY.

Both horses appeared in the recent hit movie 'Seabiscuit', based on the best-selling book by Laura Hillenbrand. The Seabiscuit appearing at the MNHS is the Thoroughbred 'Rich in Dallas' owned and trained by Bill Wildes. The eight year-old, 16 hand bay horse is still in training and finished third in a race last week. 'Dallas' is taking a break from his busy schedule to appear at the MNHS. In the movie, 'Dallas' can be seen in many of the action sequences and being ridden by top jockey Gary Stevens who played George "The Iceman" Woolf in the film.

War Admiral is a six year-old, Idaho-bred Thoroughbred gelding whose registered name is 'Maidtospacejam'. He was included in several segments of the movie. Now retired from racing, he had two victories to his credit before he changed careers to become a movie actor and the family pet of the Nina and Dave Dohoda who call him 'Admiral.' Owner Nina Dohoda says that Admiral is "the sweetest, most adorable horse I've ever known. He's a big baby and I just adore him. He's really special."

The Metropolitan National Horse Show will take place at Pier 94 and the Show Piers on the Hudson Complex in Manhattan. Along with the appearances of Seabiscuit and War Admiral, Mexican charro Jerry Diaz will perform everyday. A charro is a skilled Mexican horseman, with the charro tradition going back to roots in the 17th century. Diaz and his horses showcase the charro tradition in an entertaining performance of rope artistry and expert horsemanship that will delight all spectators.

The National Horse Show Association of America is managing three shows this year.
