Pessoa and Baloubet de Rouet Win Nordrhein Westfalen Prize

It was a tough battle in the 2004 Nordrhein Westfalen Prize at the 2004 CSIO Aachen. Show jumping legends Ludger Beerbaum and Rodrigo Pessoa were the two top duellists in the jump off of the NRW prize ridden on Thursday July 15. Beerbaum and Pessoa were the only two to clear the jump off round, but it were Pessoa and his 14 year old Baloubet de Rouet who crossed the finish first in 38.14 seconds. Pessoa won the class and cashed 15,300 euro. Ludger Beerbaum and his personality mare Gladdys S (Grandeur x Apart) placed second in 38.47 seconds.

Only six riders made it into the Jump off in which Beezie Madden and Judgement were actually jumped the second best time of 38.62 seconds, but the American duo knocked down two rails.

Finishing third in the NRW Prize was Irish Jessica Kurten on Castle Forbes Maike, a KWPN mare by Libero H x Lucby Boy. Kurten and Maike knocked down one rail but rode atime of 40.56 seconds. American born Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, who is riding for Germany, ranked fourth with 4 points and a 42.2 jump off time. Michaels rode Checkmate, a Hanoverian gelding by Contender x Pik Bube II.

McLain Ward and Goldika, a Holsteiner mare by Cor de la Bruyere, did not qualify for the jumpf off but finished in seventh place with 4 penalty points. Chris Kappler and his Westfalian Primeur (by Phantom) placed 12th. Peter Wylde and Corona had 12 penalty points and placed 28th.
