On The Road - Mary's Travel Journal The Road to The 2002 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event Dodging
Tornadoes April 30- May 2 - The wind during stadium jumping day was a major factor in the competition. Winner Kin Vinoski's biggest worry was that she would not hear the whistle, whether it was to start, or to reset a fence if the wind knocked a rail down. After successfully surviving cross country and actually getting some great shots, we opted to stay in the comfort of our camper, and watch the final outcome on TV, which for some reason we could see. For the next three days we pretty much stayed right where we were, with park officials knocking on our door more than once to take shelter in the bath house as severe weather continued to pound the region. Hail the size of grapefruits hit areas surrounding us, but we survived, and I was able to get lots of work done in the computer and websites. Poor JJ did some major damage to his back when he simply bent down to pick something up, and has been flat on his back, except for when he rallied on my behalf to take a tour of the Kentucky Horse Park International Museum of the Horse. Winnie and I continued our daily walks in between rain showers. Each day I would see how this huge and magnificent facility recovered from the combination of mud, horses, and 90,000 people parking and walking along it's property. |
