The show jumping competition is underway at the 2001 North American Young Rider Championships at Tempel Farms in Wadsworth, IL, August 7-12th . Yesterday consisted of the stable inspection, horse inspection and jog. Today all the riders are participating in a warm up round designed to familiarize the horses and riders with the ring, the jumps, and the general setting. Although record heat is making everyone sticky and sweaty, everyone seems to be bearing up, and hopeful that the promises of a break in the weather will come true.

Unfortunately Mexico did not send jumper teams as they chose to concentrate on the South American Junior Rider Championship. However, both the U.S. Zones and the Canadian Provinces sent competitive teams. There is both the Championship division and a Junior/Young Rider (JY) division for show jumping riders with both team and individual awards. Tomorrow is the first day of official competition, with scores counting toward the first leg of the individual titles and championships. Final team selection for the Friday team competition will be selected and announced tomorrow afternoon.
